Grade 4 Outcome N02 "I can compare and order numbers to 10 000."
- Have your child write down numbers as you say them. Remember not to say "and"..... example: say "one hundred forty-five" (he/she writes: 145)
- Show them numbers 100-1000 (gr 3) and 100-10 000 (gr 4) and have your child say them out loud to you (without saying 'and')
- Use pencils and pebbles to represent base ten blocks. Can your child use these materials to create the number you just said / wrote? Can you create a number with the materials, and have them tell you and/or write it down?
- Write out a series of numbers (3-4 digits each) and have your child find the errors, or fill in the blanks according to a skip-counting pattern.
- Choose 3-4 single digits. How many different numbers can you create based on these digits alone? Then practice putting them into ascending and descending order.
- Using 3 and 4 digit numbers, practice using the vocabulary "less than, greater than, and equal to" along with the proper symbols. Create a list of numbers and have your child practice with both the words and symbols.
- Write 3 and 4 digit numbers on index cards and make a memory game. You can also use the cards to practice less / greater than and equal to. Practice putting them into ascending / descending order. Play Go Fish!
