These environmental scientists had a hard time cleaning the pollution out of the pond! We learned that it is hard (impossible) to completely clean up an area once it has been damaged. We know that all the water on the Earth is all the water we will ever have, and we use it for everything! We better learn to conserve and take care of it, for the sake of Mother Earth and future generations.
The students were stranded on a desert island! They only had a handful of materials they found on the beach to design a life raft to get them home. We tested their boats in a big tub of water, and 5 groups actually held all 75 pennies I had brought from home! Today we are doing a "championship round" to see which one will hold the most!
Congrats to Ali & Summer, Hayden & Ashton, Bradley & Xander, Shane & Carter and Maggie for making it to the Championship! I failed to get any pictures of our snow melting challenge! They had at least 10 different ideas / ways to melt their snow. The winning choices include running hot water over it, and putting it in a sunny spot while they blew warm air on it.
Right after March break, I have a surprise Science/ Art project planned. I added water to tempera paint and froze it in the deep freeze. We will explore mixing the primary colors as it melts (solid to liquid!) Up next is also a liquids race, and then a "float the boat" design challenge! Stay tuned for pictures.

Animals, Animals, Animals! Our classroom is abuzz with information about animals. We researched, using books from the library, two animals we were interested in. We looked at their habitats, what they ate, and what their body coverings are. We compiled a HUGE class chart with our of our findings. We looked at the data and realized that a lot of animals have similar AND different features. In the next few weeks, we will be learning about life cycles! |
