GRADE 2
Number Sequences:
· Counting forward and backward to 100.
o Choose any number between 1-100 and ask me to count up 10 more, or back 10 more. How far can I count on my own?
· Counting forward by 2's to 20 (and to 100 by the end of the year).
o Small items at home, like pennies, beans or Lego pieces, are perfect for pairing up in two's to practice skip counting. Try to include movement, like marching, to help keep the beat. Stomp and Count!
· Counting by 5's and 10's to 100.
o This is new to us this year! Let me echo you in counting out this sequence. Counting things that naturally come in 5's or 10's really helps. Trace my hands or feet to count 5's, and group them together to count by 10's!
· Create number sequences of 5-10 numbers and ask me to fill in the blanks, or find the error.
· Give me a small handful of pennies, nickels and/or dimes and ask me to find the value.
Even and Odd: (outcome N02)
Ordinal Numbers: (outcome N03)

Even and Odd: (outcome N02)
- Give me a batch of items (21-50) to sort into two piles. Are the groups even (no left over's) or odd? Estimate the total amount first! Estimate how much will be in each group.
- Circle all the even days on a calendar month, put an X through all the odd days.
- Write any set of random numbers between 1-100 on post it notes and ask me to sort them according to even/odd. Can I explain to you how I know?
Ordinal Numbers: (outcome N03)
- Write the numbers 1-10, ordinal numbers 1st to 10th, and the number words "first" to "tenth" on small pieces of paper. Have me line them up in the correct order, and then re-group them into matching pairs or sets of three. Add pieces with small dots or pictures to represent the amount!
- Make a banner to hang in my room! A simple shape with " 1, 1st, First" will become a visual reminder every day.
