We've been experimenting with Pan Balances to explore the meaning of "equality." We estimated using a different number of the same blocks on either side. We made predictions and tested our theories. We also experimented with different configurations of the same number - for example - if we used 8 on both sides, but one side had the blocks stuck together in a tower, while the other side was loose, would it still balance? What different number configurations make up a specific number, like 10? We are starting our PATTERNS unit on Monday! :)
